Isabel is the daughter of August Hale, the Seat of The Grove. While her older brother has the responsibility of ruling the Hales one day, she still has to play her part in taking care of their Family
Her life is changed when the Betrayers return after a decade of peace. They wipe out The Grove overnight. Isabel and her brother are the only two surviving Hales, and they have to flee to The Prospect, the last safe haven in Dry World, which happens to be on the opposite side of the continent

He has been working as a doctor since a young age, so it came as a surprise when he quit soon after the War Of Life. He focused more on his duties as the Heir, but no one expected their Family to be attacked by the Betrayers, nearly a decade after the war already ended

Her story begins with her partner, Andrew Clyde, sick from an infection. He failed his last Contract, now wounded and dying. While he longs to complete the assassination, Sera has a different motive: Find a Hale to cure him. The only problem is that they’re all gone now. There is some hope, however, when she finds a lead that two of them are heading for The Prospect

Working alongside soldiers, she meets an unexpected person in Allen Aldrich. Even though she is young and small, she shows Allen a new type of resilience, while also bringing light into dark times. She isn’t strong physically, but it’s never stopped her from doing what’s right!
